|
The Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment, Inc. (CAPE) is a non-profit trade organization addressing the interests of Asian Pacific Americans (APAs) in the entertainment industry. CAPE was founded in 1991 in Los Angeles, and in 1995 established a New York chapter. Today, CAPE reaches over 1000 studio and independent film executives, television and internet executives, film and recording producers, below-the-line talent, publicists, actors, writers, directors, and more.
The founding of CAPE coincided with the emergence of Asian Pacific Americans as a force in the entertainment industry. APAs are now one of the best represented minority groups in the executive suites of the industry. Nevertheless, many APAs have experienced insularity from their fellow APAs in an industry in which relationships are key. CAPE has enabled APAs in entertainment to empower themselves, and serves as one of the most important meeting places for APAs in the entertainment industry. www.capeusa.org

The Nisei Week Foundation is a 501c3 dedicated to marketing and executing a 10-day festival. Established in 1934, the Nisei Week Japanese Festival will be celebrating its 65th year in 2005. The Festival was started by the Nisei (second-generation Japanese Americans) in 1934 during the Great Depression. It was originally created to attract business to the Little Tokyo area and to promote goodwill. This first festival included a poster contest, an essay contest, radio broadcasts, a fashion show, various cultural exhibits and demonstrations and an Ondo Parade.
With the solid support from local businesses and corporations and a growing number of Japanese firms doing business in the United States, today's Nisei Week Japanese Festival has grown in size and scope into one of the most recognized ethnic festivals in the United States.

Go For Broke Educational Foundation
www.goforbroke.org |
|
The Go For Broke Educational Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. In 1989, the 100th/442nd/MIS WWII Memorial Foundation was established. Comprised of Nisei (second generation Japanese American) veterans from World War II, it raised enough capital to build the Go For Broke Monument and establish an education program. The veterans spent the next 10 years fundraising, securing a location in Los Angeles' Little Tokyo district, garnering the support of veteran groups and the community nationally, selecting a monument design, and creating a comprehensive list of all the World War II Japanese American veterans who served overseas. Consequently in June 5, 1999, after much hard work, their dream, the Go For Broke Monument, was dedicated.
Today the Go For Broke Monument stands proudly in Little Tokyo at Temple and Alameda streets. It is a bold, black, 40-foot granite circle that rises on one side to form a wall, reaching nine feet at its highest point. The curved wall is engraved with the names of 16,126 Nisei soldiers who served overseas during World War II, including their officers and 37 Nisei women. The sloping face of the monument tells the "American Story" of the 100th, 442nd, MIS, 522nd, 232nd, and 1399th, and serves as a permanent reminder that never again shall any group be denied liberty and the rights of citizenship.
Currently the Go For Broke Educational Foundation programs include An American Story Teacher Training Program and curriculum development utilizing the Educational Foundation-produced "A Tradition of Honor," Hanashi Oral History Program, Resource Center, and www.GoForBroke.org Web site.
We must never forget.
